It is now adapted to install on almost any website.* Imagine that the police could only stop a criminal after a crime had been committed, and then only if they knew specifically who they were looking for. Kinda silly - much better if the police can be taught to recognize criminal behaviors, and to help the public put up barriers to stop people who exhibit those behaviors - things like yard lighting, locks on doors, and car alarms. Things that stop the criminal before they can do any harm. Many anti-spam solutions operate only by blocking IP addresses - much like the police only trying to stop identified criminals. Bad Behavior seeks to recognize behaviors of spambots and other malicious bots, and stop them from accessing your site before they can do any harm. Like the police, it can't stop every criminal, but it can prevent a lot of them from accessing your site and wreaking havoc. It also logs IP addresses, so that it can recognize those behaviors more accurately. But it doesn't rely on that as the only means of stopping the bad guys. People, and search engines, have different behaviors when they access your site than those exhibited by unfriendly bots, so they can be fairly reliably differentiated. Sometimes a person will access the site from a computer that behaves too much like an unfriendly bot, and Bad Behavior may block them - this is why it offers two levels of control, so you can lower the level of protection if you are worried about it blocking real people. We've run it in strict mode for more than a year, on many sites, without issues of people being blocked. Bad Behavior is released under the GPL license, and Bad Behavior Standalone follows that tradition.
